I didn’t find the monochrome cover particularly appealing, and I’m somewhat tired of reading about the lifestyles of the privileged in the Gilded Age (the ’s aka the late. While the first book- The Spice King- is a great book and worth the read, I do believe this book could be enjoyed as a standalone as well. New York stenographer Marilyn David meets Englishman Charles Gray and they fall in love.

But Charles leaves town and Marilyn discovers he is a duke's son and already engaged. Marilyn confides in her platonic friend, reporter Peter Dawes, who publicizes her as the 'No Girl' who refused nobility.

Elizabeth was an author, who published two books, "King Lehr" and the Gilded Age () and Turn of the World (). Her first novel, published after the death of her second husband, tells the story of her unhappy marriage to Lehr, which was referred to as a "tragic farce" of a year marriage.
